About ICCRL
The International Computer Chess Rating List (ICCRL) is an independent organization established in 2014 to provide objective, scientific ratings of computer chess engines worldwide. We maintain the most comprehensive and rigorous testing methodology in the computer chess community, producing an authoritative public rating list that is updated on a consistent schedule.
Our mission is to advance computer chess through fair competition, transparent testing, and standardized benchmarking. All testing is conducted on uniform hardware under identical conditions to ensure rating accuracy and reproducibility, and every result is backed by large game samples.
ICCRL also hosts recurring competitions, including seasonal rapid and blitz championships, where engines compete head-to-head under the same standards used for our list. These events highlight emerging strength, time-management skill, and stability across diverse engine types.
ICCRL serves engine developers, researchers, and chess enthusiasts by providing reliable strength measurements and fostering innovation in chess programming. Since our founding, we have tested over 487 engines and played more than 1.2 million rated games.
